Dolphin unofficial release: r1007 and Wiimote support
Dolphin, the GameCube and Wii emulator for Windows, has received another unofficial update. At the rate this is going, the unofficial project may soon become the official one.
Support for the Wii has gone a bit beyond preliminaries, and new graphic and emulation fixes have been added as well.
Don’t expect to take out your old GameCube games just yet though - the emu still needs a lot of work. Still, it’s good to see it’s making progress. Here’s the full list of changes in case it would interest you:
- update for AR decryption, skips passing the verification code back to the AR simulator
- fix bad palettes in wii games
- linux compile fixes
- added sysconf to x64 build
- added a command
- added some data for wiimote support
- wiimote code cleaning
- wiimote improvements
- added some more debug info
- added an report mode cursor position is now the same like the mouse position
- Random grab-bag of stuff: Finer grained JIT disabling (jpeterson’s debug tool), show activated cheats, some comments, one more jitted instruction, support in backpatcher for writes, currently disabled because Beyond Good and Evil crashes when using it. yes this change should be split but i’m just too lazy, sorry.
- Disable lfd in JIT for now - it appears to be the cause for the random glitches in THP videos and other weird stuff.
- really turn the vertex format jit off, when it’s off
- Make it possible to turn off the tiny vertex format setup JIT, may help macosx compatibility work (pretty useless, a jit for the actual vertex loading would have been much more useful)
- removed function that doesn’t need HLE anymore
- fixes for IPC FileIO
- opengl scons compile fix on linux
- a fix
- Added more render control options, wireframe option works, added more hacks.
- _rotl already in common.h
- added ifdef for windows.h

Japan hardware sales from the 20th to the 26th of October- PSP dominates, PS3 sinks to new low
The PSP continues to dominate the hardware charts as Media Create reports sales figures from the 20th to the 26th of October in Japan. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the PS3, which sank to a new low last week.
Although all the platforms experienced a drop in sales from the week before last, the PSP continues to show strength over the others. Last week, it sold more units Japan than the PS3, DS, Wii, and Xbox 360 combined yet again. On the other hand, the PS3’s figures dropped to a new low.
It seems that the sleek handheld from Sony is a big hit in Japan. As for the PS3, maybe we can expect sales to pick up in the coming weeks, owing to its strong lineup during the holidays. We can check back on the numbers next week once Media Create releases its weekly hardware sales chart.

Skate It for Wii, DS Coming on November 19
EA announced today that Skate It will be coming to the Nintendo Wii and DS on November 19. These semi-sequels to the original Skate employ balance board and stylus touch controls, respectively, and their platforms of choice makes them more likely to chase the casual demographic.
This season is already swamped with games as we lead up to the holidays. Skate It will be hitting just one week after games like Mirror’s Edge and Wrath of the Lich King, and in the same week as Left 4 Dead and Tomb Raider Underworld. While its control scheme might keep it from competing directly with these more hardcore titles, it’s also hitting against Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: City Folk. With such stiff competition, let’s hope Skate It doesn’t get lost in the shuffle. Check out our preview for more details on the game.

Keen ESRB-spotter Spencer at Siliconera has located a welcome addition to the ESRB’s database: Gradius ReBirth. While Japan has been pew pewing itself silly since early September, this is the first solid sign that the 1000 Point WiiWare game will be leaving its native country.
Input the code and shoot the core down the break for footage of the first two stages.

Gears Screenwriter Teases Details of the Near-Final Script
The last we heard of the Gears of War film was that Underworld and Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman was chosen to adapt a script by Chris Morgan. Now,\ MTV is reporting (via FirstShowing.net) that Morgan has submitted the final script to the game’s developer, Epic Games, and is awaiting their approval. If everything goes smoothly, Morgan says, “No doubt it is going to be a big movie.”
How big, exactly? Morgan expressed enthusiasm in bringing Emergence Day and the beginning of the Locust invasion to the big screen. “That’s the fun of the property,” he said. “Not only do you have an army of enemy forces, but where we have tanks and everything else, they have these creatures.” Creatures like the Corpsers and Berserkers, both of which Morgan confirmed to be getting some screen time.
It may sound like a big computer generated mess, but Morgan wants it to “play as though it happened today” and for people to “look outside at your city and imagine that the Locust started rising…. That’s how I want it to feel.” To achieve this, Wiseman plans to only use computer effects for “the big stuff” and certain scenes with the Locust. Read more
