Monster Hunter Tri demo disc will be available to all

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Tri was a big focal point at yesterday’s Nintendo Media Summit, but there seems to be a bit of confusion surrounding the demo disc shipping March 8. It turns out, that isn’t the GameStop pre-order incentive it was made out to be. Instead, the demo disc will be free for all — a GameStop pre-order will net you a card with 500 Wii Points on it.
As for getting the demo disc, you’ll be able to walk into any GameStop location and grab one starting March 8.

Monster Hunter Tri releases April 20, will be free to play
At today’s Nintendo Media Summit, Nintendo dropped some pertinent details about Capcom’s very successful and Wii Speak-compatible hunt-em-up, Monster Hunter Tri. The game will release on April 20 in North America as two versions: bundled with a Classic Controller Pro for $59.99 (while supplies last) and as a standalone game for $49.99. The game will also ditch the pay-to-play model for online play, as used in Japan, in favor of free online functionality. Additionally, GameStop pre-orderers will receive a demo disc on March 8.
Considering Capcom was beating itself up over whether or not to charge for online play, we’re glad the publisher finally came around and went with the option that requires us to spend less money. Just imagine — with all the money we’ll save, we can import even more delicious ramen!

Nintendo: WiiWare demo program was ‘always’ limited-time offer
All WiiWare demos were removed from the Wii Shop Channel on January 31. Nintendo of America has confirmed with Joystiq that the WiiWare demo “experiment,” which offered a set of five free downloadable demos through the Wii Shop Channel, officially ended on that date. When asked for an explanation, a Nintendo representative told Joystiq, “From the start, the demo program was always planned to be available for a limited time on a trial basis.”
While the demo program was expressly announced as a limited-time deal in Japan, no mention of any cutoff date was made in the original announcement for North America.
So, will we ever get to try before we buy again? “We’re looking at our results and deciding our next steps,” the Nintendo rep told us. Those results, according to a November analysis of WiiWare demos by Nintendo Life, look promising.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing demo might be forthcoming
The prospect of racing against the Bonanza Bros. as a forklift-driving Ryo Hazuki likely has many Sega fans on the precipice of purchasing Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing. However, those of us whose common sense has yet to be short-circuited by fan service would prefer to try out the game in order to determine whether the actual racing is worthwhile. And according to a Digital Spy interview with producer Steve Lycett, we may get to do that.
“We’re currently looking at downloadable demos for 360 and PS3, and a DS demo via the Nintendo Channel to boot,” Lycett said.
He also responded positively to the idea of Sumo Digital developing a Shenmue sequel — you know, because having a game with a Ryo Hazuki character model in it is basically halfway there. “I’m sure if Sega asked, we’d love to take it on,” Lycett said. “It’d scare me to death to take on something so epic, but well, I’d like to think we could do it justice. I think if you cut us in half at this point, you’d find Sega written through the middle of us!”

Investigate a Flash demo of Miles Edgeworth’s new game
Like it has for past Ace Attorney games, Capcom has prepared a demo of Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth. This demo seems even more relevant than past offerings, since aspects of the game other than the names on the text windows have changed. This demo will give you the opportunity to examine Edgeworth’s office with the new point-and-click interface, connect evidence with the new “Logic” system, and become impatient with Detective Gumshoe.
It doesn’t take a brilliant deductive mind with excellent taste in cravats to puzzle out that this demo contains spoilers, since it reproduces the first scene in the game. However, we suspect that you won’t be able to resist, after almost two years of no Ace Attorney games.

WiiWare’s Equilibrio is Free-quilibrio on PC
Would you like a free demo of the WiiWare game, Equilibrio? How about a free demo that happens to be exactly as long as the full game? That’s essentially what developer DK Games is offering in one hell of a goodwill gesture. The company is offering a freely downloadable PC version of its side-scrolling maze game, in which players rotate the environment to move a ball to an exit, Cameltry-style.
The PC version doesn’t support the Wiimote or the Balance Board, and it doesn’t include multiplayer, but it does have its own level editor. And we think we mentioned that, you know, it doesn’t cost anything.

LEGO Indiana Jones 2 trailer is intentionally blocky
Even though many of your trusted Joystiq editors are a little old to be playing with toys (there’s an age limit?), we can’t deny having a huge soft spot for the LEGO franchise tribute games. So, of course we’re excited that the Indiana Jones films are being remastered block-mastered again, since we heart them too. (Actually, don’t get us started on the last one — sheesh!)
As this newly released trailer shows, the tongue-in-cheek humor, charm and co-op play that’s made the previous LEGO offerings so appealing doesn’t seem to have been turned town in the tiniest for LEGO Indiana Jones 2 – and we can’t wait to create some truly weird stuff with the new level editor. We’re thinking of awarding a prize to the editor who devises the most ingenious and playfully painful way to get rid of “Mutt” — preferably as fast as possible — since all of our pleas to Lucas to write him out of canon have thus far gone ignored.

Hands-on: DJ Hero

As anyone who’s ever seen me tickle the colorful neck of a Guitar Hero guitar or keep impeccable time upon a Rock Band drum kit will attest, I’ve got a knack for rhythm games. I’ve never placed my hands on a peripheral that I wasn’t immediately able to mentally deconstruct and use to its fullest rockin’ potential [I'm only allowing this catastrophic failure of modesty because it's true. - Ed].
My first few minutes with the Xbox 360 version of DJ Hero, however, initially left me flummoxed. That’s not to say the turntable peripheral therein is poorly designed or difficult to use. No, my inability to pick up and expertly play Activision’s newest bundle of musical joy is due to the fact that for the average rhythm genre veteran, DJ Hero is a horse of an entirely different color.

Nintendo turns Game Crazy stores into Wii Sports Resorts
If you’re looking to try out Wii Sports Resort just a bit early, check out your local Game Crazy next weekend. The retailer will host a sneak preview event for the MotionPlus minigame collection on Saturday, July 25, just one day before the North American launch of the game. From 10am to 8pm that day, Game Crazy visitors will get to try out Resort, and also enter to win one of two $1,500 gift cards “toward a real-life resort vacation.”
The following day, Game Crazy will offer an extra 20 percent on games traded in toward the purchase of Resort, which suggests that they do expect people to buy some and not just play it in the store all day Saturday.
