ff413_bass3110 WiiWare Mega Man 10 gets DLC Bass character on April 5; additional DLC detailedEven though Mega Man 10 includes a playable version of Mega Man 9’s Proto Man at no additional cost, Capcom will still offer at least one additional character as premium DLC. Bass, a sort of evil Mega Man character introduced in Mega Man 7 and playable in Mega Man & Bass, will be released as a DLC character for the Wii version of Mega Man 10 on April 5 for 200 Wii Points ($2), according to Nintendo’s Mega Man 10 page. A special stage will be available the same day for 300 Points.

An “Endless Attack Mode” will follow for 300 points on April 26, along with two more special stages for 100 Points each. These DLC dates are likely to be different for the other versions of Mega Man 10, if the add-on content is planned for all releases, since the release dates for the actual game are different on other platforms. We’re contacted Capcom to verify.

Next month’s Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero DLC should satisfy would-be rockers of all types, offering an eclectic mix of – oh, there’s totally some Flogging Molly! Sorry, we just had to get that out of our system, because St. Patrick’s Day is next month and because, man, Flogging Molly is totally awesome.

There are four distinct track packs coming next month, featuring OK Go, Blink-182, the aforementioned Molly Floggers and an ’80s track pack — because nothing says March like a dusty old denim jacket with the sleeves cut off and some Night Ranger.

Nintendo: WarioWare D.I.Y. getting two DLC microgames weekly, famous devs contributing

8628a_wwdiysc224 Nintendo: WarioWare D.I.Y. getting two DLC microgames weekly, famous devs contributingMeeting with Nintendo reps yesterday to check out the interoperability between WarioWare D.I.Y. for DS and WarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase for WiiWare, we were informed that the publisher itself will be making two original games available for download each week after the titles launch at the end of March. Not only that, but there are plans to distribute D.I.Y. microgames created by “famous” game developers in the future — which, of course, you’ll be able to study the inner-workings of in detail using the DS version of the latest WarioWare.

Think you should be both “famous” and a “game developer?” The trio of tidbits we jotted down is rounded out by word of contests Nintendo is planning to hold, in which specific microgame themes will be presented to the D.I.Y. community, it’ll take submissions (for, say, a game based on your favorite food) and the best of the best will then be chosen and distributed by the Big N. Got that notebook full of (tiny) game ideas handy?

It’s a dim Friday for Guitar Hero Black Sabbath DLC

6bd4d_sabbath219 Its a dim Friday for Guitar Hero Black Sabbath DLCWere you looking forward to playing some Black Sabbath songs in Guitar Hero 5 this weekend? Of course you were — that sounds awesome. Anyway, it’s not going to happen. (And, it’s certainly not happening for you either, Band Heroes — whoever you are.)

Before the scheduled Thursday release of three tracks from Black Sabbath’s Master of Reality album, Activision announced on its Guitar Hero Facebook page that the DLC wouldn’t make its appointed release date, and added, “We hope to have the content available for download at a later date, so stay tuned!”

We were going to say, maybe the DLC was turned into steel in a great magnetic field, but, unfortunately, Iron Man isn’t one of the songs in the pack. (Although, it would appear we just said it anyway.) We’re checking in with Activision to find out what happened.

Last week, the Rock Band Store got a few healthy slices of Americana with tracks from Otis Redding and the Brian Setzer Orchestra. This week’s offerings are much more foreign — there’s a three-pack from Finnish rock band HIM, a song from Britain’s One Night Only, a track from The Police, and a song from Marilyn Manson, whom we all know actually descends from an extinct alien race whose name our human tongues could never hope to pronounce.

Schappert clarifies EA’s sweeping DLC and online strategy

335e4_me2zaeedcerberus580px Schappert clarifies EAs sweeping DLC and online strategy

During this week’s quarterly earning’s report, EA COO John Schappert answered an investor question with a somewhat vague but potentially far-reaching comment regarding the publisher’s future strategy for implementing online functionality into its games. “In fiscal 2011 [from April 31, 2010 to March 31, 2011], every one of EA’s releases will have an online component, both downloadable content and online play,” Schappert said, according to a VG247 report. CFO Eric Brown then cited Mass Effect 2’s Cerberus Network as the company’s “most recent example” of how this plan might manifest.

The obvious question: Does the plan apply to all platforms, including Wii, DS, PSP, and mobile? Schappert clarified to Joystiq today: “My statement wasn’t in reference to any specific platform as most of our titles are multiplatform and have different features per platform. Though you can expect our PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 titles to have very robust online features. Of course, depending on the title, this may extend to other platforms as well.”

While this clarification is not exactly the firestarter statement one might interpret from Schappert’s original comment, the plan still raises concerns — based on recent experiences — that EA games’ online components could continue to induce headaches so long as they are tied to EA.com accounts and the issues that have arisen as EA has increased its DLC efforts. If the plan is to include online components in all EA games in the future, then the wrinkles need to be ironed out of Project Ten Dollar now.

[NFL]

If you want to play a bunch of songs by The Who in Rock Band in a manner that satisfies your minute attention span, and do so soon, MTV and Harmonix just made an announcement that will delight you (however briefly). Alternately, you’re going to be thrilled if you want to capture some Super Bowl magic in your living room.

On Sunday, February 7, The Who will play a 15-song medley during the Super Bowl’s halftime show, and Rock Band will feature that same medley as a $2 download the same day (on Xbox 360 and Wii, anyway — the PS3 version will arrive later). The identities of the songs contained in the medley will be unknown until the Super Bowl performance, but, really, they’re all good.

Yeaahhhhhhhhh!

[Update: We mistakenly identified the "S-mashup" as consisting of the 15 songs listed in the press release. It is actually a medley of unannounced songs. We apologize for the error.]
