European Nintendo downloads: Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth, Dracula: Undead Awakening
This week, European Wii and DSi owners can download the same game on either system: a ported version of Chillingo’s iPhone shooter iDracula: Undead Awakening. Unfortunately, it’s hitting on the absolute worst day ever to release a WiiWare game about fighting Dracula.

- Reel Fishing Challenge (WiiWare, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
- Dracula: Undead Awakening (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)

European Nintendo downloads: Sonic & Knuckles, Frogger Returns, Overturn
It’s a return of two classic mascots on the Wii this week, sort of. A good Sonic the Hedgehog game — and, in fact, one that is kind of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 — is up on the Virtual Console, with Lock-On tech intact; and Konami’s Frogger is doing what he does best (almost dying in traffic). And also there’s a game about robots shooting each other, but that doesn’t really fit into the theme.
- Sonic & Knuckles (Mega Drive, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- Frogger Returns (WiiWare, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
- Overturn: Mecha Wars (WiiWare, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
- Electroplankton: Rec-Rec (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Electroplankton: Lumiloop (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Sudoku 4Pockets (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
- Let’s Golf (DSiWare, 1-2 players, 800 DSi Points)

European Nintendo downloads: Excitebike World Challenge, Final Fight 3
Excitebike World Rally, having just been released in Japan this week, is now available in Europe, ready to delight players with online, tilt-controlled classic motorcycle racing. Final Fight 3 is also out in Europe this week, with classic dude-punching. We’re starting to wonder — is the worldwide Virtual Console release of Final Fight 3 some kind of abstract promotion for Super Street Fighter IV, which features characters and locales that originated in the Final Fight series? Or is it the Wii’s equivalent of Final Fight Double Impact?
- Final Fight 3 (Virtual Console: SNES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
- “Aha! I Found It!” Hidden Object Game (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 500 Wii Points)
- Excitebike World Challenge (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Snakenoid (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)

European Nintendo downloads: Eco Shooter, Legends of Exidia
It’s time to show those … animated … cans … who’s boss. Intelligent Systems’s patently odd shooting game 530 Eco Shooter arrives on WiiWare this week, aiming to fill you with terror at the sight of any preserved vegetable. For those among you who shun can combat, Street Fighter Alpha 2 is also available, in a surprisingly competent SNES port.
On DSiWare, Gameloft has released Legends of Exidia, which is reportedly a port of its mobile game Might and Magic II (not to be confused with the real Might and Magic II) with all the license stuff excised. That’s pretty weird.
- 530 Eco Shooter (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Street Fighter Alpha 2 (SNES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
- Electroplankton: Luminarrow (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Electroplankton: Sun-animalcule (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Legends of Exidia (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points)

European Nintendo downloads: Starship Patrol, A Boy and His Blob, Eat! Fat! FIGHT!
Today’s European Wii/DSi Shop update includes one of the most cringeworthy localizations in memory. Tecmo’s Tsuppari Oozumo Wii Heya, the latest in its long-lived sumo wrestling series, appears in Europe today as … Eat! Fat! FIGHT! Sure, it’s more lighthearted and less a strict simulation of sumo, but Eat! Fat! FIGHT? Really?
A Boy and His Blob and Street Fighter II’ (the PC Engine version) arrive on Virtual Console today, and DSiWare has yet another original Q-Games title: Starship Patrol, a futuristic-looking tower defense game in space!
- Eat! Fat! FIGHT! (WiiWare, 1-2 players, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Moki Moki (WiiWare, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- A Boy and His Blob (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)

European Nintendo downloads: Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, Monkey Island
The sole Virtual Console release this week is a reminder of a very odd time: when Sega thought Alex Kidd was a viable character. The company took an in-progress Shinobi parody game called Shinobi Kid, and then added the Alex Kidd character. Someone at Sega was under the impression that a game would sell better with Alex Kidd in it.
Also available: more Monkey Island, an expansion of one of Rubik’s World’s games, and Pallurikio, a cute platformer with a slingshot mechanic. And on DSiWare, it’s … a stripped-down version of Hell’s Kitchen!
- Pallurikio (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Rubik’s Puzzle Galaxy: RUSH (WiiWare, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points)
- Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 4 (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Alex Kidd in Shinobi World (Sega Master System, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
- PictureBook Games: The Royal Bluff (DSiWare, 1-4 players, 500 DSi Points)
- Hell’s Kitchen Vs. (DSiWare, 1-2 players, 800 DSi Points)

European Nintendo downloads: Earthworm Jim 2, holiday games
This week, the European Wii and DS Shops’ halls are decked, with one festive, holiday-themed game each! Happy Holidays: Christmas on WiiWare is, like the Halloween WiiWare release, a program that lets you put together and send e-cards. Yep.
Just Sing! Christmas Songs on DSiWare is pretty much what it sounds like: a karaoke game in which you just sing Christmas songs. Two of them. Just watch the trailer (via GoNintendo) after the break.
Oh, also, Earthworm Jim 2 on Virtual Console. Neat!
- Earthworm Jim 2 (Mega Drive, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- Mahjong (WiiWare, 500 Wii Points)
- Happy Holidays: Christmas (WiiWare, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
- Foto Face: The Face Stealer Strikes (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points)
- A Little Bit of … Magic Made Fun: Matchmaker (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Just Sing! Christmas Songs (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)

European Nintendo downloads: Pokemon Rumble, Shootanto, demos
The WiiWare demo service arrives in Europe today, though a bit light on content compared to other regions. On the upside, both of the demos offered are for games that cost 1,500 Wii Points, which means you could save a pretty large chunk of change if you discover (somehow) that you don’t like World of Goo.
In terms of stuff you pay for, Shootanto is going to be totally overshadowed by Pokemon Rumble. DSiWare has a decent selection of games, including something that looks kind of like Defend Your Castle, a few card games, and myNotebook.
- Pokemon Rumble (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 1,500 Wii Points)
- Shootanto: Evolutionary Mayhem (WiiWare, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
- Army Defender (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- A Little Bit of … All-Time Classics: Strategy Games (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
- myNotebook: Blue (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Uno (DSiWare, 1-6 players, 500 DSi Points)
- Demos: Pokemon Rumble, World of Goo (free)

European Nintendo downloads: My Zoo, Ninja Gaiden, Rock N’ Roll Climber
Today, on the European Wii Shop, Hudson follows up its surprisingly successful My Aquarium with more animals to take care of. Also on WiiWare, Nintendo’s still-weird Balance Board-equipped Rock N’ Roll Climber, whose rock-climbing/air-guitar concept, and whose non-standard apostrophe use we’ll never get used to.
The big draw for us is the arcade brawler version of Ninja Gaiden, which seems fresh to us after 20 years of dodging eagles in the NES game.
- My Zoo (WiiWare, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
- Rock N’ Roll Climber (WiiWare, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- Ninja Gaiden (Arcade, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- A Little Bit Of …. Nintendo Touch Golf (DSiWare, 800 DSi Points)

European Nintendo downloads: Banana fighting street
Finally, the wait for Fighting Street is over for Europe! We suppose it’s timely, given that a new Street Fighter game is in the news now, but … it’s still Fighting Street. The continuation of Tales of Monkey Island should be a bit more welcome, as should the DSiWare Bomberman Blitz.
Manic Monkey Mayhem on WiiWare sounds like it could be great (monkeys throw bananas to knock each other off of platforms), with online play — but, of course, we always feel guarded about unknown WiiWare games. But monkeys! We look forward to hearing impressions.
As for the rest, Uno sounds like Uno and SUDOKU sounds like sudoku, but louder.
- Fighting Street (Turbografx-16 CD-ROM, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
- Manic Monkey Mayhem (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 3: Lair of the Leviathan (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)
- Uno (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 500 Wii Points)
- A Little Bit of … All Time Classics: Family Favorites (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
- Bomberman Blitz (DSiWare, 1-8 players, 500 DSi Points)
- SUDOKU (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
